Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. It is the largest city of Central Asia.
Tashkent is more than 2000 years old. The population is 2,5 thousand.
Like other cities in central Asia Tashkent had different names: Shash, Chach, Binkent.
The first information about Tashkent is dated back to the 2nd century B.C.
Tashkent was situated on one of the most important crossroads of the Great Silk Road.
By the end of the 13th century Tashkent was one of the biggest cities on the Silk Road.
On the streets of the city one could meet people speaking different languages, who created special atmosphere in the markets and chaikhanas.
It was one of the commercial and cultural centers of the East.
There were small clay huts and splendid palaces, numerous caravan-sarais, mosques and madressahs.
Modern Tashkent is a real mega polis. It was almost completely rebuilt after heavy earthquake of 1966.
It has wide straight streets and avenues, nice park and squares with numerous fountains, a lots of museums, concert and exhibition halls, theaters, libraries, Institutes, Universities, scientific-research institutions.
Tashkent is the only city in Central Asia, which has underground. Some of Tashkent underground stations are considered to be the most beautiful in the world.
